The Urban Air project involved designing a user-friendly point-of-sale system for all their locations nationwide to streamline transactions and improve the digital check-in process. My role focused on creating an intuitive interface, validating design simplicity, and fostering strong client relationships to ensure the system met user needs and business objectives.
Solution 1: Check In Participants
Employees, often young high school students, needed to efficiently check customers into the park and assign passes upon purchase. They had to mark which participants entered the park, redeem pre-purchased merchandise during check-in, and seamlessly transition between the check-in process and point of sale operations.
Solution 2: Point-of-Sale Interface
Cafe purchases needed to be seamlessly integrated with the check-in process to accommodate the fluid nature of customer transactions throughout the park. The client was enthusiastic about upgrading to a modernized user interface.
Solution 3: Payment
Users needed to efficiently check out customers after their purchases, with the payment system accommodating various scenarios such as split payments and transactions for large parties.
Solution 4: Kitchen Display System
Cooks required a kitchen display system (KDS) seamlessly integrated with the point of sale, tailored to their workflow. This included printing receipts for order assembly and using the KDS for an overview of incoming orders.
The design engagement concluded on excellent terms with the client. They were excited about the new point-of-sale system in development, and store managers were eager to implement it in their locations.
